Rush Lake
State Game Area Known for Hunting & Wildlife Conservation
Rush Lake is a State Game Area managed by the Michigan DNR and is dedicated to wildlife conservation. The area covers approximately 2,102 acres and is located nearby Sleeper State Park and Campground.
Rush Lake has been slowly decreasing in size and filling in with marsh and wetlands, for many decades. It now has a smaller southern and northern open water portions.
The area is known for its conservation of Eastern Wild Turkey, Mallards, and Common Pheasants. There are also Whitetail Deer among other wildlife. The area is open for public hunting and fishing.
Locally renowned for hunting and target shooting, Rush Lake State Game Area provides ample opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. Fishing enthusiasts can also enjoy the variety of species available, including smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, northern pike, black crappie, rock bass, walleye, and freshwater drum.
Parking areas can be found off Sand Road from Quarry Road and on Etzler and McCormick Roads.
