Port Austin History Center

Explore the history of the Port Austin Area

Explore the rich history of the greater Port Austin area at the Port Austin History Center, operated by the Port Austin Historical Society. Located one mile east of Port Austin, this center is dedicated to collecting, preserving, and presenting the vibrant history of "life along the shoreline."

Inside the center, visitors can immerse themselves in a variety of activities that showcase the area's fascinating past. From browsing through scrapbooks and researching genealogy to exploring exhibits on vintage hats, household tasks, farming, and local landmarks like the air base and lighthouses.

Visitors can also take a stroll through the wooded grounds, which feature walking trails and several historic buildings, including a log cabin, a 19th-century Grindstone City house, and a 1950s barbershop.

The center's gift shop offers a selection of fun and educational items, including memoirs, puzzles, flags, and photographs. The Port Austin History Center is free, and welcomes locals and visitors to delve into the rich heritage of the Port Austin area.
