Kernan Memorial Nature Sanctuary
Adventure Off the Beaten Path
The Kernan Memorial Nature Sanctuary is a remote and protected nature preserve located north of Port Hope. The sanctuary is largely made up of untouched woods, wetlands, and shoreline. There is a path that leads directly down to the shore at the end of Pochert Road as well as a 1/2 mile marked but un-maintained nature trail that leads you through the sanctuary to the beach and Whiskey Harbor.
The area around Whiskey Harbor is an ideal place to birdwatch. Depending on the time of year, it is suggested to wear hiking boots, bug spray, and long pants. There are blue markers indicating the trail.
