Port Austin Artist in Residence Program

The Port Austin Artist in Residence (AiR) program offers a unique opportunity for artists from Michigan, the Midwest, and beyond to engage with the vibrant community of Port Austin. Through initiatives like the Barn Art project, which aims to create ten building-sized artworks over ten years, Port Austin AiR is making waves in the art world and putting the town on the map as a creative hub.

At the heart of the AiR program is the Bee Barn, a converted barn residence and studio where visiting artists can stay and immerse themselves in the beauty and inspiration of Port Austin. Surrounded by the town's beaches, parks, waterways, and distinctive seasonal rhythms, artists have the opportunity to create works that reflect the essence of the community. Through exhibitions and community interactions, these works are shared with residents and visitors alike, contributing to the cultural richness of Port Austin.

The AiR program welcomes artists of all disciplines, including creative writing, visual arts, photography, sculpture, fiber arts, ceramics, and music. Residencies are up to four weeks in duration, providing ample time for artists to delve into their practice and engage with the local community. With no residency fees or stipends, the focus is on providing artists with a supportive environment to create and share their work, fostering growth and innovation in both the arts and the community at large.
