Winter Wonderland

Port Austin in the summer, need we say more? But, can we tell you a secret? Port Austin becomes it’s own kind of beautiful as the chill of winter sets in. There are many things to enjoy in the Port Austin area throughout winter. Join us as we embrace winter with a number of activities and events.  See below to begin planning your winter trip to Port Austin.

Explore the Outdoors

The dominant feature of Port Austin in the winter is the beautiful, frozen Lake Huron. If you've ever enjoyed a kayak trip to Turnip Rock, the reef light or more leisurely trips along the coast, you may be interested to see these same spots transformed by winter's chill. Need some convincing? See the videos on this page. If you're a little less adventurous, the break wall encrusted with layers of ice and snow, is an object of wonder. If you haven't experienced the various temporary, natural winter spectacles of the Port Austin area, you're in for a treat.

In addition to the the coast, there are countless unimproved roads and frozen rivers and creeks serving as excellent snowmobile routes, parks with groomed trails perfect for cross country skiing, and endless vistas perfect for photographers looking for the lesser known beauties of the world.

Need gear? Cross country skis can be rented from Heins Hardware (989) 738-7311, and snowshoes can be rented from Port Austin Kayak (989) 550-6651

Whether you wish to ice fish, kiteboard, hike, snowshoe, cross-country ski or snowmobile, Port Austin is the perfect winter travel destination.
