History Talk: The Music Collection of Karl Byarski

8 p.m. – 9 p.m. (Refreshments at 7:45)

Port Austin History Center

1424 Pointe Aux Barques Rd. (One mile east of Port Austin)

Fiddler and music researcher David Langdon presents highlights from the music collection of Huron County native Karl Byarski. Byarski purchased a reel-to-reel tape recorder in 1952 and began recording local dances, weddings and parties. His hobby grew into a serious music collection, and he even built a recording studio in his basement to record local musicians. The program will feature Langdon’s work with Byarski and research in Huron County, in particular Port Austin and Huron County fiddlers. You will hear recordings from Byarski’s collection as well as live fiddle tunes.
