Parks, Beaches & Trails

The Village itself, though only one-square mile in size, has 4 parks, including Veterans Waterfront Park and Bird Creek County Park on the shoreline, both with sandy beaches, pavilions and play areas. Another half dozen parks and beaches are close by (ten minutes or less from downtown).
Trails include a five-mile long hiking trail at Port Crescent State Park, trails at the Huron County Nature Center, and the “Tip of the Thumb Heritage Water Trail” for kayakers and canoeists.
Bird Creek is a seven acre day use park located in Port Austin. The first thing you notice at Bird Creek is the wooden boardwalk that goes halfway around the park along the beach with roofed picnic shelters overlooking the beach and the water. The park features a large picnic Pavilion adjacent to the playground. A new restroom and shower facility completes the park features.
